Brevo account suspended? Why it happens and how to reactivate

What each Brevo suspension notice actually means, the exact thresholds Brevo publishes, and what you can and cannot recover.

Published Facts checked against Brevo's help center on 18 September 2026

Short answer: Brevo documents five reasons for suspending an account or its email campaigns: an anomaly detected at signup, negative results on a campaign, negative results on transactional email, a compromised account, or a Terms of Use violation. The reason is shown in your Deliverability center. A first campaign-results suspension can usually be reactivated by you; Brevo states that a second one cannot, and that your subscription keeps running while you are suspended.

The five suspension reasons Brevo publishes

Brevo's own article, Why have my account or email campaigns been suspended?, lists these cases. The notice you see in the Deliverability center tells you which one applies.

Notice What triggered it How Brevo says to reactivate
Anomaly detected when signing up Brevo's system flagged something during registration. The article does not say what it checks. Contact Brevo support, who "will run the necessary checks".
Negative results on email campaigns Campaigns sent in the last 24 hours, or a campaign to newly imported contacts, produced negative engagement signals. See the thresholds below. First time: follow the reactivation steps in the Deliverability center yourself. Second time: Brevo states it "won't be able to reactivate it".
Negative results on transactional emails Poor results on SMTP/transactional sending. Contact support, who assess the quality of your transactional emails.
Your account was compromised Unusual or suspicious activity suggests someone else accessed the account. Brevo opens a ticket; follow its compromised-account steps before reactivation.
Your account did not respect our Terms of Use A Terms of Use violation. Not reactivated. Contact support only "if you believe this decision was made in error".

The numbers that trigger a campaign suspension

For the most common case, negative campaign results, Brevo publishes the thresholds. It says negative results "can include, but are not limited to":

For a campaign to newly imported contacts, Brevo says it "assesses engagement indicators from a random subset" and decides within 1–3 hours whether the campaign continues or the campaign and account are suspended.

What this means in practice: a list of 1,000 addresses needs fewer than 20 hard bounces, fewer than 10 unsubscribes, and no more than 2 spam complaints on a single send to stay under every published threshold. Old or unverified lists routinely exceed the bounce limit on the first campaign.

You are still billed while suspended

Brevo answers this directly: "Your subscription will keep running even though your account or campaigns have been suspended." You cannot send until reactivation, but the plan is not paused. If reactivation is going to take time, Brevo separately documents that monthly plans can be paused for up to 3 months (yearly plans cannot) and that cancellation takes effect at the next billing date. See how Brevo pricing and limits work for those rules.

How to reactivate, step by step

  1. Open the Deliverability center in your Brevo account and read the exact notice. It names the campaign and the metric that caused the suspension.
  2. If it is your first campaign-results suspension, follow the on-screen reactivation instructions. Brevo's article Reactivate your email campaigns after a suspension covers the flow.
  3. Before sending again, fix the cause. Remove addresses that hard bounced, remove anyone who complained, and do not re-import contacts who unsubscribed. Brevo publishes a post-suspension list-cleaning guide.
  4. Send the next campaign to your most engaged segment first. Brevo's new-contact check samples engagement in the first 1–3 hours, so a small, warm audience is the safest way to re-establish positive signals.
  5. For signup-anomaly, transactional, compromised, or Terms cases, open a support ticket. There is no self-service reactivation for those.

When the account cannot come back

Two outcomes are documented as final:

In both cases Brevo invites you to contact support if you think the decision was an error, but it does not describe an appeal process or timeline. If you are here because a second suspension has landed, the practical question is where to send from next. Our Brevo alternatives guide compares current options, including their own free-plan limits and suspension policies.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my Brevo account suspended right after signing up?

Brevo calls this "Anomaly detected when signing up" and says its system detected an anomaly during registration. It does not publish what the checks are. The only documented route is to contact support for a review.

Will Brevo tell me exactly which campaign caused it?

For campaign-results suspensions, yes: the Deliverability center shows the campaign and the metric (for example, the hard bounce rate over the last 24 hours) that led to the suspension.

Can I still add contacts or edit campaigns while suspended?

Brevo's article only states that you "won't be able to send emails" until reactivation; it does not say other features are blocked. We have not verified this beyond the published text.

Does a suspension affect my transactional (SMTP) emails too?

Brevo documents transactional suspensions as a separate case with its own notice. The article does not state whether a campaign suspension automatically blocks transactional sending.
